Ponds

Pond Digging, Cleanout and Bank Work

Whether you want a new pond for livestock, wildlife or looks, or an older pond has filled in with silt, we handle the excavation. We dig and shape the basin, build up and compact the banks and grade the ground around it.

For existing ponds, we remove built-up silt and muck, reshape eroded banks and clear overgrowth along the shoreline. Every pond is different, so we start with a free on-site look at the site, the water source and what you want the pond to do.

FAQ

FAQ On Pond Construction & Cleanout in Central Illinois

How Much Does Pond Construction or Cleanout Cost?

It depends on the size and depth of the pond, soil conditions, site access and where the dirt or silt will go. Contact us to discuss pricing and get a free quote after we look at the site.

Will My Soil Hold Water?

Many Central Illinois sites have clay soil that holds water well, but not every site does. We look at the ground during the estimate, and some sites may need soil testing before a pond is dug.

How Do I Know My Pond Needs a Cleanout?

Common signs are shallower water than it used to have, more weeds and algae, muddy or eroding edges and silt building up where runoff comes in. How often a pond needs it depends on how much soil washes in.

Do I Need a Permit to Build a Pond?

It depends on the pond's size, its location and whether it affects a stream or wetland. Check with your county and your local Soil and Water Conservation District before work starts.

What Happens to the Dirt and Silt?

It can be used to build up the banks, spread and graded elsewhere on the property, or hauled off. We will talk through the options with you before the work starts.

Can You Repair an Eroded Pond Bank?

Yes. We reshape and compact eroded banks to a more stable slope and clean up the area around them, so the bank holds up better over time.
